About the Event

The Embodied Mindfulness Way – An Experience Day

Practise it in your own body. Then hold it for others.

A single day to feel the embodied mindfulness way as a whole, its stillness, its energy and its physical embodiment, rooted in a living Rinzai Zen lineage and guided by Daizan Skinner, Founder of Zenways.

What you embody yourself, you can offer to others. What you have only understood, you cannot.
  • Zen Yoga studio, Camberwell, London
  • 5th June 2027
  • Guided by Daizan Roshi
  • Cost £120, with £100 redeemable against Module 1 fees if you go on to book.

You already work with the inner world of others. Somewhere along the way you have felt the limit of a purely cognitive approach, the moment where a person understands something clearly and still does not shift.

This day is for practitioners who sense that the next depth is not another technique to add, but something to be lived first and offered from. It is an experience, not a presentation. You will practise, in your own body, the ground the whole training rests on, and feel directly why it matters for the people you sit with.

This is not a teacher or facilitator training, and it is not a yoga class or a sales pitch. It is a first, felt taste of the embodied mindfulness way in full: the stillness and insight of the mindfulness pathway, the physical embodiment of the body as ground, and the compassion that runs through both, and of how all of it integrates into the work you already do.

THE CLAIM NO ONE ELSE CAN MAKE

The only professional mindfulness training in the UK led by a Rinzai Zen master.

The shape of the day

Three movements, and one thread through all of them
Each movement is drawn from the training, and each shows how the practice lands in your own work with clients. They build on one another, the breath and awareness of the first feeding the grounding of the next. Taken together, with compassion running through, they are the whole embodied mindfulness way in miniature.

Foundations of Module 1

Silent stillness

The ground the whole day rests on.

  • Intention, and the breath worked both as a narrow, focused attention and as a broad, open awareness.
  • Building awareness, coupled with acceptance, learned through meditation.
  • Discernment: noticing a thought as it arises without identifying with it, and seeing that a thought does not have to be acted on.
  • In your work: helping a client sit with their own inner experience, tell a passing thought from who they are, and choose whether it even needs a response.
Drawing on Module 2

Energy

As openness grows, a further skill is needed.
  • Grounding: coming into the body and steadying yourself.
  • Clear seeing in the moment. As we open, we can begin to absorb what is around us, becoming something of a sponge. Grounding lets a practitioner tell their own energy from what is not theirs.
  • This rests directly on the breath foundation from the stillness work, so the two feed each other.
  • In your work: giving a client stability before insight, so depth does not destabilise, and showing how to stay grounded while staying open.
The body as ground

Movement

Insight felt, not only explained.
  • The physical dimension of the way: embodied movement into the body, working with breath, energy and attention.
  • Embodied practice rather than a yoga class, though it draws on the same physical roots as Zen Yoga. The point is how the body helps insight land.
  • In your work: another doorway for a client to move from thinking about their experience to living it.
THE THREAD THROUGH ALL OF IT

Compassion runs quietly through the whole day rather than standing as a session of its own. It is the quality of how we meet ourselves, and the people we work with, in stillness, in energy and in movement.

Who The Day Is For

Defined by what you are reaching for, not by a job title
Most people who belong here already work with others and have arrived at the same place in their own practice. In practice, that includes:

  • Therapists and psychotherapists
  • Counsellors Clinical and counselling psychologists
  • Coaches and leadership development
  • Healthcare and NHS professionals
  • Educators and university wellbeing staff
  • People who guide mindfulness, meditation or yoga
  • Facilitators and people in caring roles

You want depth rather than another certificate, and you want to integrate new understanding into how you already work rather than start something new.

Your Guide For The Day

Daizan Roshi

Daizan Roshi

Julian Daizan Skinner is the first Englishman to complete traditional Rinzai Zen training in Japan and become a Roshi (Zen Master). He brings over forty years of Zen practice to the practices he will guide you through on this day.

Zenways was founded in 2007 and more than three hundred practitioners have come through it, many of whom remain actively connected. The day is guided in the same spirit as the training: accessible, grounded, and asking nothing of your beliefs, only your willingness to practise.
