Shinzan Roshi’s death sesshin

Shinzan RoshiZen Master Shinzan Miyamae died on the 27th May 2021 in his 86th year.

At the moment we don’t have any more information. As we find out more, we’ll update this page.

Zen master Shinzan was a rare and fearless teacher. It’s an extraordinary thing to be touched by such a life. He was fiercely proud of his Zenways family and in that context more than once said to me, “I can die at peace now.”

We’re commemorating his life and expressing our gratitude through a 49-day online sesshin (Zen retreat) starting from 4th June – 22nd July 2021. As we sit together during this time our job is to continue to bring his incredible spirit into presence and manifestation. He is not gone. He can be with us more than ever. You can help this to happen.

We would like to welcome you to sit with us for any part of this retreat – even just one period. Our intention is to have at least one person sitting at all times through the retreat.

All our regular events will continue as per normal except for the Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat 8pm home zazen meetings which will be subsumed into the retreat schedule.

Zazen periods are in one-hour blocks – 25 minutes sitting, 5 minutes walking, 25 minutes sitting, 5 minutes walking.
