Zen Yoga is the practice of creating the conditions for a radiant life and deep spiritual understanding. It emphasises three things: awareness/mindfulness, correct alignment, and the energy (ki) of the system.

This box set includes six videos to download with a combined running time of 380 mins.

Practical Zen Yoga Foundations:
In this practice session we establish the foundations – how to align the three threads of your rope so that each one reinforces the other two, optimising your practice throughout the five seasons of the year. This is an ideal practice for those encountering Zen Yoga for the first time, or those wanting to reconnect with the foundations of their practice.

Practical Zen Yoga for Spring:
In the Zen system, the liver and gall bladder energy channels (myaku) are particularly associated with the spring season. This wood-element practice sequence highlights the qualities of growth, expansion and creativity.

Practical Zen Yoga for Summer:
This Zen Yoga practice sequence focuses on unblocking and opening the energy systems in the body particularly related to the summer season: the heart and small intestine energy channels (myaku), together with the pericardium and triple heater channels.

Practical Zen Yoga for Late Summer:
The late summer is not a distinct season in our Western calendar but is separated out in the Zen system as the time of harvest. The fruit is ripe and the vigorous growth of spring and summer is over. In Zen Yoga we work on the stomach and spleen energy systems which are connected to this fifth season.

Practical Zen Yoga for Autumn:
The autumn season is particularly related to the lung and large intestine energy channels (myaku) which we will work with in this practice sequence. As the leaves begin to drop off the trees, we focus on the crucial letting-go aspect of practice so that we become able to move forward in life.

Practical Zen Yoga for Winter:
In this time of year we focus on the water element – mobilising and warming the body, and energetically nurturing the root to prevent the formation of ‘ice’. The organs that deal with water balance in the body are the kidneys and bladder so we will also work with their associated energy channels (myaku) and emotions of fear and indecisiveness.

Zen Yoga is based on Zen master Julian Daizan Skinner’s many years of living and studying in Zen temples. It draws on the Buddha teaching of mindfulness of the body, Zen’s emphasis on correct alignment, and the profound links between bodily energy and health found in Japan. Through simple, adaptable movements it teaches you to feel the energy flowing in your system, balance your emotions, and foster physical wellbeing.
