Zenways 10th anniversary celebrations
This summer we’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary!
We’ll be holding festivities around midsummer (21st June) to mark the date that Daizan came back from Japan and started teaching. The 21st June was the day he set off on his pilgrimage walk up through the country.
Wednesday 21st June
Party at the dojo. All welcome – no need to book. Please bring something to share (food, drink, a song, warm-hearted conversation).
Saturday 24th June
Commemorative walk through the city connecting all the places that have hosted the Zenways sangha over the years. We will begin at Oakley Road in Islington (Daizan’s old flat) at 10am and walk to Earls Court (where we met for Zen practice for the first 5 years), passing the Chinese Community Centre near Russell Square (where we met for a year or two before Camberwell). Then we will walk to the dojo in Camberwell, passing the Battersea Park Peace Pagoda (where Daizan performed the sangha’s first Jukai ceremony).
If you’d like to join us but don’t want to walk the whole distance (around 12 miles), then please join us either at Earls Court or at the Battersea Peace Pagoda. We’ll post timings when we’ve had a chance to plan them.
At the dojo in Camberwell. Concert by Judith Charron and Ben Kahn and other evening entertainment, including an exhibition of Shinzan Roshi’s famous calligraphy.
