Event Navigation

One day retreat
Teacher: Kevin Jikai Pickard Sensei

This one day course is open to anybody who wants to learn how to apply Zen to their relationships. Our relationships often bring us the most happiness and also the most hurt and confusion in our lives. This course looks at an eight stage cycle of the creation of pain in relationships and how to move into and sustain happy and healthy ways of relating to others and ourselves. The course draws on Buddhist psychology and key Zen teachings to provide a framework to understand why relationships go wrong and how we can do our best to make them work well. It offers practical strategies and meditation approaches, along with opportunities for self-inquiry both during and after the course.

The eight stages are:

Falling out of the Pure Land – the descent in to dualistic hell
Manas a manas – the basis of unhappiness
Close the gap – heart goals not smart goals
The great grief – shattering into a thousand pieces so that you can be rebuilt
The wide open universal heart – only compassion and kindness work
Emptiness and generosity – the more you give, the more you get (but only if you do it right)
The true partner of no rank – not knowing is most intimate
Attachment without attachment – healthy and happy relationships

The course provides 6 hours of CPD for Zenways Mindfulness and Meditation Teachers.

Cost: £40
