CPD day: Is it ever unsafe to teach people Zen Meditation and Mindfulness?

1st October 2016 @ 11:15 am - 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

Lotus flower

A one day CPD workshop presented by Kevin Jikai Pickard and Rick Hallett.

In this workshop we will look at both Western psychological and traditional Zen perspectives on whether meditation and mindfulness can be detrimental to people’s psychological wellbeing. It aims to help meditation teachers develop the confidence to make their own informed decisions about whether and what to teach. The workshop will involve sharing some simple models, group discussion and experiential exercises.

Kevin Jikai Pickard is a senior psychotherapist and psychotherapy team lead in the NHS and a trainee Zen teacher. Rick Hallett is a psychotherapist in the NHS and a Zen practitioner. Both Kevin and Rick have their own lived experience of mental health problems and the impact that meditation can have on these, both positive and negative.

Please bring a vegetarian lunch to share.
